This video containing extreme graphic violence, racism and hate was shown during class time to students by a teacher currently employed by the Chippewa Valley School District. This video is not educational and it glorified extreme violence and racism. It spread misinformation, trauma and could be considered psychologically harmful and discriminatory. Our children have a right to a safe, respectful, and non-discriminatory educational environment. This video is highly inappropriate for a classroom, regardless IF there was teacher explanation.
- Graphic content can traumatize students, especially if they’re not emotionally prepared.
- Content crossed ethical and possibly legal lines.
- Power imbalance between teachers and students. Students felt pressured to watch even they were uncomfortable. Some students may not have felt safe speaking up in class.
- There are better and safer ways to teach. There was no need to shock or distress students.
- Was there a parental opt-out provided?
